Discussion Topic:
A user complains that her computer is responding very slowly. She also says that when booting the PC, it reports a lower value for memory than she assumed is available. You investigate and consider the idea that one of the RAM sticks in her PC may have become unseated. Detail the steps you would take to determine how to diagnose and reset the RAM.

Paragraph #1
DB 3 RAM issues
Random Access Memory (RAM) is “one of the most important components of not only desktop PCs, but laptops, tablets, smartphones, and gaming consoles. Without it, doing just about anything on any system would be much, much slower”. (Martindale, 2019, p.1) Ram is where a computer temporarily stores information that will need access for a short time. When troubleshooting a RAM issue, the first thing I would do is to check the BIOS to make sure that the correct amount of memory it says it installed. Not having the recommended amount of RAM installed may be a problem and you may have to consider upgrading. Next, locate the RAM sticks making sure the computer is completely powered down, opening the case by removing the side or back panel. Next press down on the retention clips on both ends of the motherboard slots to remove the RAM sticks. Install the new RAM making sure RAM sticks are aligned correctly within the space of the motherboard slots. “Be sure to note the location on the notches on both the RAM Nd the DIMM slots”. (Techanew, n.d.). When the Ram sticks are installed correctly, they will click into place. Close the computer by putting the panels back on and restarting the computer to test and see if the issue has been resolved.

Paragraph 2
When determining how to diagnose and reseat the RAM I would begin by checking the amount of RAM on the computer. “A system that does not have enough RAM can sometimes appear to be unstable. Using the systems window, find out how much RAM is installed, and compare recommended amounts. Consider upgrading RAM” (Andrews, Dark, & West, 2017). After checking and making sure the correct amount of RAM is installed, I would then begin by checking the RAM sticks. I would first turn the computer off and I would then open the case and release the clips holding in the RAM sticks. I would then remove each RAM stick and reseat each RAM stick ensuring clips are fully engaged. After reseating all the RAM sticks, I would then reboot the computer to see if it responds and begins to work correctly. If it is still not working, I would shut down the computer again and remove each RAM stick. I would insert only one of the RAM sticks and turn on the computer to see if the RAM stick is working properly. I would repeat this process for each RAM stick until a bad RAM stick is found. If no bad RAM sticks are found, then I would turn off the computer and insert a known good RAM stick into one of the RAM slots on the motherboard. I would then turn on the computer to see if it is working properly. I would repeat for each slot on the motherboard until a bad slot is found.
