Module 1 – Case
TRAINING OVERVIEW; ADDIE MODEL;
ANALYSIS & DESIGN
Assignment Overview
In this assignment you will be utilizing the first two stages of the
ADDIE model—Analysis and Design.
There is an opportunity to select a topic that is meaningful to you. (It
will be the same topic to use for all four case assignments. Each
case focuses on applying a different phase of the ADDIE model—
Case 1: Analysis and Design, Case 2: Development, Case 3:
Implement, and Case 4: Evaluate.
Select a topic for your training plan from one of the following:
1. A current situation at your workplace. For example, how to fix a
specific problem in a vehicle or aircraft, or how to create Excel
spreadsheets with charts and graphs, or how to create effective
PowerPoint presentations, or
2. How to successfully plan and open a new business during a
pandemic in your state, or
3. How to teach the basics of sign language to first-line supervisors,
or
4. How to make a great home video, including tools needed.
You are the training course designer and will also be conducting
(hypothetically) this training throughout the year. The 12-15 learners
in each training session will have at least a H.S. diploma or
equivalent.

Analysis Phase
The Analysis phase determines the level of instruction needed and
what outcome the program should produce.
Instructional goals and analysis
1. Identify the aim of the training
2. Analyze training needs
3. Identify instructional learning goals
Learner analysis involves reviewing learner characteristics,
1. backgrounds
2. learning styles

3. prerequisite knowledge
4. personal and social characteristics
5. abilities/disabilities and cultures
6. knowledge gaps
Learning objectives Identified
Once the Analysis phase is completed, you should have a good
idea of the existing gaps that need to be addressed.
Design Phase
The Design phase addresses how instructional goals and
objectives shape strategies.
The Design Phase should include the following:
1. Design assessments
Demonstrate how learners will be assessed.
2. Choose a course format (delivery system)
3. Create an instructional strategy
Draft a brief training outline with timelines.
Identify what text, animation, graphics, video,
multimedia elements, resources will be used, and
sketch the budget.
Briefly outline the contents, and how it relates to
specific learning objectives.
Consideration of the environment includes:
Location of the facility; parking
Inside noise level; room temperature
Learner proximity to other learners, and
trainer
Interaction opportunities with others

Case Assignment
For your Case 1, follow the Analysis and the Design phases as
described in the Gardner videos and other sources you find to
begin applying the ADDIE model. If there is unknown information,
make logical assumptions for information needed and note in your
paper the assumptions you made.
