Introduction
According to McEwen et al (2019), Philosophy encompasses examining fundamental, conceptual, and universal issues. The issues mentioned above pertain to fundamental aspects of existence, knowledge acquisition, moral principles, rationality, and the ultimate objectives of human life—philosophy endeavors to uncover knowledge and truth while discerning many concepts and ideas’ significance and fundamental qualities. Nursing philosophy encompasses a declaration of basic and all-encompassing presumptions, convictions, and principles about the essence of knowledge and cognition (Teichman & Evans, 1999, p. l). As a DNP-prepared nurse, my philosophy is the pursuit of optimal patient advocacy and integrity via acquiring information, ongoing learning, educational progression, and personal development.
Philosophy of nursing practice and goals for expanding my experience and training as a DNP
I have a firm conviction that nurses need empathy, unwavering dedication, and an exceptional ability to advocate for patients who lack the means to express their needs, particularly in the cases of children, the elderly, and those with mental disabilities. Cultivating cultural competence and promoting inclusivity irrespective of color, religion, and sexual orientation should be considered a fundamental concept or ethical ideal within the healthcare profession. The adherence to my whole concept enabled me to maintain a concentrated and dedicated approach toward the individuals under my care. The impetus for my decision to embark on a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree was the perceived constraints I encountered as a Registered Nurse (RN). While a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree has its limitations, it does enhance my ability to provide more. I aim to acquire a comprehensive understanding and proficiency in evidence-based practice to improve my professional expertise as a DNP-prepared nurse. By doing so, I want to enhance patient advocacy and safety within healthcare settings. My healthcare career started with the role of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). However, a transformative encounter compelled me to pursue more education to get the designation of a Registered Nurse (RN). I had the misfortune of working under a nurse who showed a lack of concern for the well-being of her (our) patients. Due to the constraints imposed by insufficient resources, my ability to advocate for my patient was significantly curtailed. These factors all contributed to the unhappiness experienced by my patients, prompting me to make a personal commitment to improve my nursing practice. As a result, I have pursued more education and training to become a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)-prepared nurse.
DNP role as a social change agent and recommend at least one way you will advocate for positive social change as a Walden DNP.
The purpose of nursing encompasses the fundamental importance of social justice and health fairness. Social transformation is a dynamic and protracted undertaking that starts with discernment and is actualized via aptitudes that may be imparted and cultivated within a nursing curriculum, afterward perpetuated throughout one’s professional trajectory and civic engagement. According to Read et al. (2016), nurse educators possess a significant opportunity to foster leadership skills to effect social change. This may be achieved by implementing deliberate student programs that acknowledge the progressive nature of student development and the importance of inclusion in shaping their growth.
Nurses who have obtained a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree are responsible for advocating for improvements in the patient experience, particularly in cost-effectiveness or affordability, access to healthcare services, and aligning services with quality and safety standards. My primary focus is advocating for my patients’ well-being. I aim to synchronize my dedication with my principles and philosophy to improve patients’ experience, reinforcing my advocacy. As a DNP-prepared nurses, we possess the necessary skills to assume leadership roles and actively participate in interprofessional cooperation, all for the sake of the patient. I will have the requisite fortitude and self-assurance to implement nurse policy modifications actively.
With my DNP-prepared nurse education, I will possess the necessary competencies to effectively assume leadership roles and actively participate in legislative lobbying efforts. I must cultivate proficient communication and interpersonal abilities as a nurse with a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree. I will possess experienced leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. These competencies will significantly contribute to my ability to collaborate efficiently with healthcare professionals and families, enhancing patient satisfaction and safety (Giardino et al., 2020). I will possess the requisite fortitude and self-assurance to participate in the execution of alterations to nursing policies. In conclusion, our primary objective is to prioritize patient advocacy and satisfaction as critical factors.

Doctor of Nursing Practice Philosophy and Social Justice Advocacy
The knowledge and experience I’ve accumulated throughout my nursing profession have had a significant impact on my outlook. According to what I’ve learned from McEwen and Wills’ “Philosophy, Science, and Nursing,” nursing is a creative synthesis of the arts and sciences that promotes holistic health through the combination of patient-centered care and scientifically sound techniques.
I gained the majority of my nursing experience in intensive care units, where I personally witnessed the life-altering consequences of nursing care. This has reinforced my belief that nursing encompasses more than just treating patients’ illnesses; it also requires offering them emotional support, education, and a sense of agency. Three pillars serve as the foundation of my nursing philosophy: interdisciplinary teamwork, advanced clinical assessments, and patient-centered care.
The nursing strategy I favor is based on the idea that each patient is a unique person with unique needs, a unique medical background, and distinct symptoms. It is crucial to ensure the delivery of care that is sensitive to cultural differences and to promote inclusivity for people with different backgrounds (McEwen, & Wills, 2019). I also recognize the value of making judgments based on actual evidence and always adding to one’s body of knowledge. This belief has driven me to actively look for ways to widen my perspectives, adopt a global health perspective, and work together with other healthcare professionals to improve patient outcomes.
The goals and guiding principles I have aligned with my plans to enroll in Walden University’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. I want to increase my awareness of diversity and have a deeper grasp of global healthcare by taking part in this program’s training. My professional obligations will inevitably involve interacting with others, and I am grateful for the chance to learn from and advance alongside my colleagues.
I also recognize the importance of a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree in terms of its capacity to affect community change. The nursing profession is in a unique position to influence legislation and take part in lobbying in order to encourage positive societal reforms (Madigan et al., 2023). I intend to have a good impact on society while completing my DNP at Walden University by helping to solve healthcare gaps that disproportionately affect underprivileged people. To that aim, I intend to collaborate with neighborhood organizations to create outreach programs that promote awareness of and access to affordable healthcare. By employing this strategy, I hope to look into the root causes of health disparities and encourage structural changes that will help these communities.
In summary, my nursing practice is founded on the principles of giving each patient specialized care, respecting diversity in all forms, dedication to lifelong learning, and teamwork. My objectives and those of the Walden University Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program are completely compatible. I am able to actively seek out and value diversity, discuss global health challenges, and take part in group initiatives with the intention of bringing about positive change because of this educational opportunity. I am a DNP candidate at Walden University, and I am committed to use my knowledge to become a fervent supporter of global change. By concentrating my efforts on minimizing healthcare inequities in disadvantaged communities, I am convinced that I will make a significant and lasting difference in the lives of those who most need it.
