PSYC 100 #2
Jacques Gagne is a slightly overweight, 46 year old French-Canadian male court-ordered to the Psychological
Goodman Center for psychological testing. Jacques presented with dress that is unkempt, wrinkled pants, a
heavy sweatshirt, and heavy jacket, despite the weather being in the 90s. Jacques seems hesitant at first,
however as the interview goes on he is more cooperative. When discussing the reasons for the court testing
Jacques stated, “it is just a formality, my ex wants to stop me from visiting my two children because she thinks
I am not fit enough to care for them, so the court wants to have me tested.” When discussing his relationship
his wife, he stated that they have two children, Monique and Francis, who are 5 year old twins, and that he
divorced his wife two years ago. The relationship between the two had been amicable but Jacques stated
that his ex-wife, Jennifer, is currently dating a new man and he is filling her with “garbage” and telling her to
get full custody. He stated, “She might have just filed now but she has been after this for at least a year now,
and she is out to get me.” He stated the reason for the divorce was because his wife was cheating on him and
so was he, but only after he learned of his wife’s infidelity. He never had definite proof, but he had phone
calls that hung up immediately after he picked up, his wife coming home a little later than usual even though
she stated there was traffic, and that his wife kept a password on her personal laptop.” He also stated “she
hired a private investigator or something because I have the same blue car follow me every few days.” Also he
reported, “I have been walking outside this past week and hear my name called, when I turn around no one is
there.” He stated now though he does not really care to start another close relationship and enjoys the sexual
freedom. He stated that his main social support is his two brothers, which he works with as computer repair
specialist. The company is owned by the three brothers but Jacques does most of the work on the computers
while the other two mainly work sales and handling the finances. He stated that he would like to handle
more of the sales however; he has gets real “anxious” that he cannot handle the pressure so he prefers to
stay in the back. He recalled he had the same fears while in high school and college, when having to speak
publicly. He preferred computers to people and shied away from social interactions. He stated sometimes
when working on the computer, “I can just see things others cannot; I am a pro at finding things that others
do not see or hear.” Jacques also stated that his computer skills are better than others, and enjoys computer
hacking. When asked about the legality of his actions, “he states I am super careful, but I still know the FBI is
tracking me, I found a chip they placed in my computer, but they should watch me I am that good.” He also
stated that “I do my own share of illegally copying movies, and I known they put the disclaimer in the
beginning just for me, but I just laugh.”
Jacques stated that in his early twenties he “used to do cocaine, probably once or twice a week for a couple
of years”, and has not taken it since, but stated he smokes about a pack and a half of cigarettes daily. Jacques
stated that in high school and college he played hockey “religiously” and was not only known by his
teammates for giving big hits but also for receiving them too. He stated he had a “few bad concussions but
nothing that ever affected my playing ability.” Jacques stated “I had all those brain tests nothing is wrong up
there.” Jacques also stated “when I am lying in bed at night trying to fall asleep I sometimes hear an old
woman crying for help outside my window, but when I check there is no one.” He says he has heard this
about 7 or 8 times in the past two years. He also stated “one time when I was waking up I saw Jesus and my
dead mother next to my bed, but then they vanished.” When looking at his family psychiatric history showed
a great grandmother that had Schizophrenia and a father that was “delusional.” When looking into Jacques’
past psychiatric history he stated he had in the past sought help for relationship problems prior to marrying
his wife, however he stopped going because “the psychologist was labeling me as psychotic and that was
completely untrue.” Jacques stated, “This might sound strange but I keep seeing mice out of the corner of my
eye at work, but my brothers swear there are none.”
