Directions:
Demographics
· For the motivations, what age groups did you find info on? List all of the age groups.
· For the motivations, what genders did you find info on? List all of the groups.
· Did you find other demographics and their views on the motivations? For each demographic you list, provide the different groups that comprise it.
Paper and Research Questions
· Write out a specific research question for each motivation and demographic group. There should be at least eight questions (2 motivators and four different demographics).
· Write out the question your paper will answer. Keep in mind the research questions you have already created.

Directions
Write an original working draft of 4-5 pages that explores who different demographics feel about your chosen motivators (see the
Paper 2

).
· The draft must include the following items:
· Introduction that sets up the paper.
· A clear and specific thesis (in the introduction).
· Body paragraphs that answer the prompt. Body paragraphs must have
· a topic sentence,
· specific info from the sources (the author’s name or title–if not author–is in parentheses at the end of each piece of info from a source),
· and the writer’s discussion, connection, and application of the source info.
· A conclusion that does more than summarize the paper.
· At least three college appropriate sources and the required source, ”

Paper 2: What appeals to gamers?
Prompt
Students will explore a motivational cluster and compare those who are interested in it to
those who are not and why.
Each group member will choose a motivational cluster. Only one cluster per person.
o The clusters are (1) Action, (2) Social, (3) Mastery, (4) Achievement, (5)
Immersion, and (6) Creativity.
In a 4-5 page paper, each student will define the different motivations in each cluster, as
well as look into who is and is not interested in it and why.
All papers must look at gender and age when exploring who is and is not interested. If the
research suggests other demographics for both motivations, those can be added as well.
Objectives
Write a 4-5 page informative researched synthesis that compares particular game
motivations among different demographics.
The paper will look at a single motivational cluster and its two motivations. Throughout
the paper, the writer will compare different demographics views of the chosen motivator.
The paper must provide complete, and detailed info. This includes how each
demographic feels about the two chosen motivations and why.
The paper must explain the source info provided and compare the different
demographics’ views.
The paper presents a useful intro and conclusion.
o The intro engages the audience on the topic, hooks the reader, and sets up the
paper. This will include a quick definition of the cluster and its motivations.
o The conclusion goes beyond a summary and draws conclusions from the
comparisons within the paper.
The paper provides a thoughtful and clear thesis that sets forth the basic finding about the
demographics’ views of the cluster and how they compare.
An easy-to-follow body explores the comparison.
o Paragraphs work as a unified and work as a group.
o Paragraphs are thoughtfully ordered and transition and connection between
paragraphs is provided.
Body paragraphs clearly present ideas and link them to the thesis and the rest of the
paper.
o Paragraphs start with a complete topic sentence that summarizes what the
paragraph covers as well as how it develops the thesis.
o Paragraphs will be focused; they often will be one demographic (such as an age
group or gender) and the demographics views and why they feel as they do.
o Sentences must move smoothly from one to the next.
The paper presents detailed info from college appropriate sources.
o All papers will use the “Gamer Motivation Model: Overview and descriptions.”
o A minimum of three other college appropriate sources must provide the info on
the demographics and their views.
o Outside of the provided source, no other sources can come from the Quantic
Foundry website.
o Most sources obtained through a Google search will NOT be college appropriate.
There are plenty of good sources in the UTSA library.
All source material must be integrated and fully cited using MLA style, and the paper
must be in correct MLA format.
The paper must use Standard American English appropriate to an audience of college
peers and faculty. The material must be grammatically and mechanically correct.
Directions
Groups will discuss the six different clusters and determine who will work with which
cluster. Only one person can write about a cluster; everyone must do different clusters.
Learn about the cluster and define it. Start with the provided overview and expanded the
definition through research.
Research how different demographics feel about the cluster’s motivations and why.
o `Make sure that you have two different groups for the two main demographics
(gender and age), but feel free to break up a demographic into more parts.
o Additional demographics can be considered also, but there must be at least two
separate groups within the demographic.
Synthesize the research to determine exactly what each demographic feels and why.
Organize the material into a logical compare and contrast discussion on the
demographics.
Develop the draft.
o Use sources to provide specific info about the motivations, each demographics
view of the motivation, and the reasoning behind their view.
Explain the source info and put it into context.
Explain the comparison between sections of a demographic; this can include comparison
between demographics as well.
Revise your draft using professor and peer feedback.
