You are to write a paper about an event that started as an emergency and turned into a disaster. Your paper must address, at a minimum:

the background of the conditions before the event began or occurred
the steps or activities that led to the emergency event
the chronology of the entire event from its beginning as an emergency to the end of the recovery from the disaster
the principal response parties involved in the entire event, including private entities and government agencies
the lessons learned from the event and your opinion of how well the event was managed

Your paper must be at least 10 pages and should not be more than 24 typed pages long. It must have a bibliography that includes technical resources relevant to your topic.

Grading Rubic for max grade:

Paper covers an event with major environmental significance that started as an emergency and turned into a disaster. The paper covers in great detail the background of the conditions before the event began or occurred; the steps or activities that led to the emergency event; the chronology of the entire event from its beginning as an emergency to the end of the recovery from the disaster; the principal response parties involved in the entire event, including private entities and government agencies; and the lessons learned from the event. The paper has a detailed discussion of the student’s opinion of how well the event was managed.

Event presented in a clear, concise, and organized manner. Addresses all of the subject areas required in the project description. Covers an event that had major evironmental consequences. Exceeded minimum length requirements. Has a cover page; a table of contents linked to page numbering; uses sectional headings; contains graphics such as pictures, charts, graphs; contains a bibliography with appropriate references.

This discussion forum will focus on the first step in program planning: assembling the change team.

1,Review the Process of Program Planning document posted in the Week 1 module. The objective of step 1 in the program planning process is to assemble a team of leaders, staff members and possibly healthcare consumers with the authority, expertise, credibility and motivation necessary to drive a successful change program.

2.Consider your workplace, or the workplace where you will complete your capstone project. Answer the following questions in your initial post:

a. Provide a brief description of the workplace, at the level where change will be instituted (ie. unit versus hospital)

b. Which individuals would you want on a team to investigate the need for change? It is not necessary to name individuals, but rather to list their job titles. What is your rationale for selecting these individuals? Do they fulfill any of the following team roles?

-Executive Sponsor -a senior leader with enough clout to implement new approaches

-Clinical or Technical Support-has expert knowledge of the relevant clinical subject matter or of the technology used

-Champion- Staff who are supportive of a change, and willing to mentor others to make change happen

-Front-line leader- Understands the impacts of making changes on processes used in the delivery of nursing and healthcare

c. Discuss the use of interdisciplinary change teams. Are they more or less impactful than those of one discipline? Please provide a rationale explaining your answer.

In the Ancient Greek world (the world of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle, often regarded as the birthplace of philosophy) a “symposium” was a banquet held after a meal, an “after party” of sorts that usually included drinking, dancing, recitals, and engaging conversations on the topics of the day.

For our purposes in this course, the Symposium discussions will not involve dancing, recitals, or a banquet, but they will provide food for thought on current ethical issues and direct application of the ethical theory discussed in each of these weeks.

It is almost impossible these days to turn on the news or log onto social media without encountering a controversy that cries out for ethical discussion. For these Symposium discussions, your instructor will choose a topic of current ethical interest and a resource associated with it for you to read or watch. Your task is to consider how the ethical theory of the week might be used to examine, understand, or evaluate the issue.

This week, you will consider how utilitarianism applies to a controversy, dilemma, event, or scenario selected by your instructor. It is a chance for you to discuss together the ethical issues and questions that it raises, your own response to those, and whether that aligns with or does not align with a utilitarian approach. The aim is not to simply assert your own view or to denigrate other views, but to identify, evaluate, and discuss the moral reasoning involved in addressing the chosen issue.

Your posts should remain focused on the ethical considerations, and at some point in your contribution you must specifically address the way a utilitarian would approach this issue by explaining and evaluating that approach.

If you have a position, you should strive to provide reasons in defense of that position.

Present a scenario (real or imagined) in which a committed utilitarian would probably make one choice, but someone who finds this objection compelling would probably make a different choice. (In other words, put yourself in the mind of someone making that objection, and you’re imagining a scenario in which that person would likely make a certain ethical judgment but a utilitarian would make a different ethical judgment.)

Reflect on yourself:

In your view, does considering this situation strengthen and support the objection (thus showing a weakness to utilitarianism), or does it help strengthen utilitarianism by showing how a utilitarian could respond to that objection?
