RADT 1300 – INTRODUCTION TO MEDICAL IMAGING

FINAL PROJECT – IMAGING CERTIFICATION PRESENTATION

Students will continue to learn about the different professions and certifications available by

preparing a Power Point presentation on an imaging certification.

Power Point Presentation Format

1. Title slide: 1st slide

a. Any legible Font

b. Name of imaging certification (font size must be at least 40)

c. Name, date, course number and section (font size must be at least 24)

2. Content slides:

a. Any legible Font: Title font size at least 40 Content font size at least 24

b. Total of 20 content slides: See content criteria for number per content area

3. Reference slide: Slide #21 (and #22 if needed)

a. The last side of the presentation (Slide #21)

b. A list the URLs of all the sources, images, descriptions used to create the presentation

c. URL’s be in alphabetical order

d. URL’s must link to the specific information and images used.

4. Images/Pictures/Diagrams/Charts/Graphs:

a. See content criteria for number required per content area

b. Exam images must be from the certification and must demonstrate an anatomical part

c. Pathology images require a description of the anatomy/pathology presented

d. Labels are required for all images/pictures, etc. that are not already labeled

3. Background on the inventor or person who 1st used or demonstrated the imaging procedure

4. When & where the imaging procedure was first used or demonstrated

2. SLIDE 4, 5 & 6:

1. Title of slides = Concept

2. Include one (1) picture of the equipment and 1 exam image on one of the slides

3. How does it work? Explain how images are created (radiation, isotopes, sound waves)

4. Primary use: Diagnose patients’ conditions or to treat disorders or both

5. Explain the equipment used to create the images. (transducers, detectors, isotopes, etc.)

6. Technologist role & responsibilities: Take images, assist radiologist, prepare patient

3. SLIDE 7 & 8:

1. Title of slides = Pathology

2. Include one (1) exam image of abnormal pathology and one (1) exam image of normal anatomy
on one of the slides

3. A pathology/disease primarily diagnosed with the imaging certification.

4. List three other pathologies/diseases that are diagnosed by the imaging modality.

4. SLIDE 9:

1. Title of slide = Safety & Protection

2. Include one (1) image/picture/diagram/chart on one of the slides that relates to safety

3. Explain the safety precautions associated with the certification for the technologist and/or
patient.
o Amount of radiation used; danger of the magnet; if exam is uncomfortable for the patient

5. SLIDE 10 & 11:

1. Title of slides = Advantages

2. Include one (1) image/picture/diagram/chart on one of the slides

3. List 3 Advantages: See examples below

o Efficiency: Short exam times; better images; better patient outcomes, etc.

o Expense: Cost of an exam or equipment is cheaper compared to another certification

o Explain how the procedure is safe/safer than another procedure

6. SLIDE 12:

1. Title of slide = Disadvantages

2. List 2 Disadvantages: See examples below

o Efficiency- Takes longer; does not show certain anatomy

o Expense: Cost of exam or equipment is more expensive compared to other modalities

o Safety – Procedurs uses more radiation or patients can have adverse reactions or accidents

7. SLIDE 13, 14, & 15:

1. Title of slide = Education & Training

2. Include one (1) image/picture/diagram/chart on one of the slides

3. Type of formal or structured education required (degree or CEUs); hours or months required

4. Specific Clinical Requirements: Total number of procedures, patients, plans or activities.

5. A college that offers the certification in Tennessee.

6. A college that offers the certification in Arkansas or Mississippi.

7. Provide the following information from the programs selected from each state in #5 and #6:

o Length of the program and method of instruction (online or campus)

o Number of specific program courses to be completed (no general ed courses)

o Specific degree or certification earned
